Antisemitism is the world’s oldest hatred. Horrific and widespread acts of antisemitism have stained cultures, peoples, nations and even religions. Sadly, Christians have perpetrated some of the greatest tragedies in the history of antisemitism. A 2018 study found that 1 in 4 Jewish adults in the Denver area has experienced antisemitism. The ADL reports that violent antisemitic assaults increased 56% from 2018 to 2019, and also reported that 2019 saw the greatest number of antisemitic incidents since 1979.

Antisemitism is rising all around us. Conspiracy theories that blame Jews for the world’s ills abound. The radical left is sympathetic toward groups that hate Israel and Jewish people. The radical right is home to white supremacist groups that have long been antisemitic. Worst of all, many who claim to follow Jesus are ignorant of the ways in which they tolerate antisemitic sentiment and support antisemitic movements. Nothing could be more antithetical to Christianity than to support Jew hatred, when Jesus and his earliest disciples were Jewish.

We are pastors and leaders who share a common love and respect for the Jewish people, and great concern as the tide of antisemitism rises in our nation. We are motivated by love for the Jewish man Jesus, and acknowledge that we owe much to the enduring legacy of spiritual blessing that flows from the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Our desire is to forge lasting relationships of mutual blessing with the Jewish community. However, we recognize that to move forward we must first acknowledge the pain and distrust caused by centuries of Christian antisemitism.
